Turner receives award for contributions to research on aging!

Joanne Turner, associate professor of internal medicine, has been awarded a Julie Martin Mid-Career Award in Aging Research from the American Federation for Aging Research. The $550,000 four-year grant is one of two awarded this year. Turner, a faculty member in infectious diseases and the Center for Microbial Interface Biology, conducts research on how the aging immune system responds to the bacterium that causes tuberculosis. The award is part of a program sponsored by the Ellison Medical Foundation, which encourages mid-career scientists whose work has the potential for leading to advances in the understanding of basic mechanisms of aging.
